The Knitting Factory Concert House opened in December, 2009, in the space once occupied by Rocky's. The entrance to the 1,200-capacity venue is in the alley and this Virginia Street facade is actually the back of the house. |

Fitzgerald's closed on November 30, 2008, laying off 495 employees. After a two to three year remodeling the developers say they will reopen as a boutique hotel under a new name with no gaming. The last picture above shows the dismantling of the rainbow bridge after the train trench was completed. |

With the closing of Fitzgerald's and the Golden Phoenix and the dismantling of the rainbow bridge the whole west side of Virginia Street appears to be shuttered. The Fitzgerald's parking garage in the last picture is closed although the retail space on the first floor is still in use. The city covered the train trench for two blocks along Commercial Row to use as a plaza for special events. |
