The river area has become an inland beach for area residents and visitors. In addition to the water sports the Riverwalk has restaurants, shops and theaters.
The whitewater park and kayak slalom racing course under construction at Wingfield Park near Arlington Avenue. Major work in the $1.5 million project was completed in November, 2003.

McKinley School on Riverside Drive next to the Truckee River was built in 1910. The site is now used by the City of Reno as an Arts and Cultural Center.
