This structure, built in 1883, served as the Esmeralda County Courthouse until the county seat was moved to Goldfield in 1907. In 1911 the county was split and the building was used as the Mineral County Courthouse until it was replaced in 1973.

Hawthorne, on Nevada Highway 95, is 130 miles south of Reno and 310 miles north of Las Vegas
with a population of about 4,200. The largest employer is the U.S. Army Ammunition Depot.
Mineral County has a population of about 5,000.
